Introduction to Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) – Free Training for EAPH Members

Sunday 11th October 2026 | 10.00am – 1.00pm | Online on Zoom | Free for EAPH members | CPD certificate provided

Could you already be working with clients affected by FASD – without knowing it?

Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder is a lifelong neurodevelopmental condition caused by prenatal alcohol exposure. Awareness in Ireland is only now beginning to grow, which means many people living with FASD – and the parents and carers supporting them – are undiagnosed, misunderstood, or misdiagnosed with something else entirely. They present to therapists every day with anxiety, sleep difficulties, emotional overwhelm, struggles at school or work, or exhaustion from caring for a child no one seems able to help.

When we recognise what we’re really looking at, everything changes — for the client and for us as practitioners.

This engaging three-hour training will give you a clear, practical understanding of FASD: what it is, how it shows up in daily life, and how to support the individuals and families living with it.

What we’ll cover:
  • What FASD is, and the risks of prenatal alcohol exposure
  • Signs and symptoms, prevalence in Ireland, and commonly co-occurring conditions — including effects on sleep, time management and money management
  • The impact of FASD on children, young people and their families
  • What it’s actually like to live with FASD
  • Practical strategies for supporting people with FASD at home, in education and in the workplace
  • Alternative approaches to parenting and caring
  • Navigating the education system
  • Challenges within the justice system
  • Where to signpost clients and families for further help
  • Open Q&A — bring your questions

You’ll leave with a genuine working knowledge of a condition that touches far more lives in Ireland than most professionals realise – and the confidence to recognise it, respond to it, and signpost well.

Please note that this training will not be recorded. Research into FASD is ongoing, and Tristan will be sharing current knowledge that may well be updated in the future – so a recording could quickly become out of date. He will, however, provide a comprehensive slide deck, which will be added to the EAPH Members’ Area after the event. To get the full benefit of the presentation, the discussion and the live Q&A, we’d strongly encourage you to attend on the day.

Presented by Tristan Casson-Rennie, CEO of FASD Ireland
About Your Presenter:

Tristan Casson Rennie FASDireland.ie

Tristan Casson-Rennie is the CEO of FASD Ireland, the national organisation for awareness, education, prevention and support around FASD, which he founded on 9th September, 2021 – World FASD Awareness Day. An adoptive parent, Tristan has been a committed advocate for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities for over 15 years, and FASD has been a constant presence in his own family life throughout that time. He speaks from lived experience as well as professional expertise.

Tristan is also a qualified Interactive Hypnotherapy Practitioner since 2017 (IHA/IAPC/IAMT accredited), so he understands exactly where this knowledge fits within a therapy practice. Please note this is an informational and awareness training rather than a session on hypnotherapy techniques — but it’s knowledge every practising therapist in Ireland will be glad to have.

“I’m driven by the belief that everyone deserves to be seen, supported, and included — especially those with neurodevelopmental conditions, disabilities, and those affected by adverse childhood experiences.” — Tristan Casson-Rennie

This training is open to members of the EAPH. Please register below to attend on Sunday 11th October 2026, and receive your CPD attendance certificate after the event.
